On Sunday night, my group went back to Gary’s apartment to film the Vox Pop and get some more B-roll.
For the Vox Pops, we interviewed four of Gary’s friends; however, before we started filming we had to give them and get them to sign the correct forms. While we were setting up the shot, we had to move around the furniture in Gary’s apartment for the best shot. We decided that the people who were doing the Vox Pop would be sitting on the couch, so we had to move it forward. We had the camera set to shallow focus so that everyone would be more focused on the people than the background.
Before we started filming the Vox Pops we had everyone go outside the apartment so there wouldn’t be a lot of extra, and unnecessary, noise in the background while filming. We interviewed Gary’s friends one at a time. We asked them to describe Drag in one word. Each of them said a different word; brave, fabulous, amazing, courageous. I’m not a hundred percent sure those are the words they said, but it still means the same thing. That they were proud and supportive of Gary. We also asked each of them, “What was your reaction when you first saw Gary in Drag.” Each of them told us that they were surprised, proud and happy.
For the B-roll, we decided to film some of the objects around Gary’s apartment. We got some footage of his golden dick trophy, and I find it amazing that he had that. We got some footage of his weird little lamp, a little Pinocchio man with a red nose light. We got footage of the female pig on top his fridge, he got it from a friend when he moved into the apartment. When we first interviewed him, we got footage of him putting his makeup on and going into drag.
