On Friday Morning I originally went to go see Cabbage Head, an animated short, but the citing was full by the time I got there. Which is funny because I bought a ticket, which is supposed to be a guaranteed seat at a showing. Since I couldn’t get into it, the staff at Cucalorus suggested I go see Automatic at Sea. A movie about this billionaire who brings Women to his private island. Why not, I thought it seemed interesting. At best I expected a movie similar to the World’s Most Dangerous Game or some movie where a billionaire kidnaps and kills people. I what I watched, was not what I expected. Far from it in fact.
The movie began with any other and it was very interesting at first. A different animal ink stamp to represent each day as the movie progressed, we saw the beautiful Island and the lush vibrant forests. As the movie continued we see the billionaire do strange things away from the main characters in a barn we never really see what happens in their, but it isn’t the main thing about the movie. Near the end, everything begins to dissolve and disintegrate. The reality, what’s real and what’s not, began to blur and it was a very strange experience. Weird imagery appeared and it seemed cult-like.
One thing I like about the movie was the cinematography. The movie had a lot of amazing shots in it. If you paused at any moment in the first half of the movie you would have some prime wallpaper.
There were many things I did not like about it. One was the story, it made no sense at the beginning and by the end I more than happy to leave. Not much happened in the movie, it moved at a very slow pace. Overall I did not enjoy it and I would not watch it again.
